Carley came from a background in the police and equine training across Europe. In her earlier career she quickly became known for handling the most dangerous horses peacefully - building trust quickly and overcoming complex behaviour issues that others had given up on. Her attention to precision, and her ability to handle volatile animals carefully under pressure, became her hallmark.

It was through that world that she and Gareth first crossed paths - a chance encounter over a muzzled German Shepherd that would eventually become the foundation of everything Equi-Nine stands for.

Together, they built something that didn't exist in South Wales at the time: a specialist facility focused entirely on the dogs that other trainers had written off. The ones deemed too dangerous, too far gone, too much of a liability. Those are exactly the dogs Equi-Nine was built for. And they still work with these dogs today - alongside reactivity, nervousness, anxiety, and aggression in all its forms.

Together they work harmoniously, playing to their strengths and supporting people on this life-changing journey.

Coming from a rescue background at the start of his career, Gareth has seen just about everything. Working with dogs where there was little to no history meant he had to assess, adapt and make the right decisions quickly. It taught him to look beyond the behaviour and understand the dog in front of him.

He became known for refusing to give up on the dogs others had already written off. Long after his working day had ended, he'd still be spending his own time helping fearful dogs build confidence and giving them every possible chance at a better future.

His specialist area is working with fearful, reactive and aggressive dogs through a slow, carefully structured process that rebuilds confidence from the ground up. He has successfully rehabilitated dogs that had been assessed by other professionals as beyond help - with some even recommended for euthanasia. He has also stood alongside owners through police investigations and dangerous dog cases, helping them navigate some of the most difficult periods of their lives. Those dogs are still living safely and successfully in society today.

People often joke that Gareth can hear dogs whisper. He's frequently described as a "dog whisperer" because, to the untrained eye, it can look as though he's doing very little - simply standing quietly beside a dog. In reality, he's doing everything. He's reading the smallest changes in posture, breathing, muscle tension, eye movement and behaviour, constantly adapting to what the dog is communicating. He sees conversations most people don't even realise are happening.

His work is rooted in neurology, psychology and an exceptional ability to observe what others miss. He doesn't simply change behaviour - he changes the way a dog experiences the world. By helping dogs feel safe enough to think instead of simply survive, lasting change becomes possible. And by teaching owners to recognise the same subtle communication, he gives them the confidence and understanding to continue that progress long after the sessions have ended.

With over 15 years of professional experience across both the canine and equine industries, Carley has built a reputation for transforming not only animals, but the people standing at the other end of the lead. An award-winning behaviour specialist, she has dedicated her career to understanding fear, anxiety and behaviour through science, psychology and compassion.
